Tuesday With The Girls

Yesterday was our Tuesday group and the room was packed. This is the quilter that made the tree wall hanging out of my scraps because I gave her the fabric for this awesome snowball quilt. In case you missed the tree check it out here.

The back of this quilt is almost as fun as the front. She even matched up her stripes. There's a whole lot of creative sewing going on in that room on Tuesdays.

Today I trimmed some Dancing Stars pieces so I can sew them together into squares. These are slow going but I'm excited about the finished quilt so I will persevere. I don't think I will make it to king size though!

Happy sewing for now.

Sew Happy

My three day sewing adventure was like participating in a marathon without training for it! I had not done any sewing for over a month and I didn't realize you can loose your stamina. Well, I won't let that happen again.

I was excited about all the hexagon designs I have been seeing on the internet and around town so I figured I would start there.

Hexagon April 2013

I need to learn how to do Y seams to sew the rows together on this one. After starting  it looks like I need more of a variety of fabrics. Could I possibly find something in my stash? Ya think?

French Roses April 2013

This is an old pattern in new fabrics. It is a raw edge design that is very fun. I used freezer paper to cut the shapes and a 1/4" seam around to sew them down. After washing they will get all soft and ragged around the edges. I have only done one other raw edge quilt and I love the added texture the raw edge adds. I did finish this one and will post a picture when hubby comes home to hold it up.

Loose Ends

This is a quilt that one of the other girls finished that I love. It was done in shadow play fabrics. The depth that those fabrics create gives this quilt an added dimension that I'm not sure it would have had using pure solid fabrics. Great quilt.

Bernie worked great with her new hook but I did miss Juki and her push button thread cutting feature. A girl starts to depend on those small but special features. Now if only the bobbin would never run out!

Make time for your sewing therapy. It's cheaper than a psychiatrist. Well maybe!

Another No Sew Post

I know it has been a month since I posted but... when I get a call that my sister is in the hospital with pneumonia and sepsis I don't know about you, but I get on a plane. No hand sewing projects or anything but clothes and my Kindle. I was in Connecticut for almost three weeks. After reading 3 books my hands were going stir crazy so I ventured out for knitting needles and yarn. I haven't done any knitting for say, 40 years. It all comes back to you like riding a bike.

March 2013

I didn't have a pattern so I casted on until I got bored then turned around and knitted the next row. Lucky for me it is the perfect width. I used three colors. I stay with a color until I get bored and then change up to the next one. There seems to be a reoccurring theme here. I know, I have the attention span of a gnat sometime.

4 deer in the backyard. 2013

You know how I like to see wild animals up close and personal. There were 4  adult female deer and a baby one eating in the forest. I was in the house talking to one of my sewing buddies and due to the snow I could see activity in the forest. This is my sisters back yard and I'm looking out the window. I can see 4 in this picture but I think the baby is behind the post. I wish I knew how to draw those circles around an object so you can see the deer clearly.

Another window March 2013

They all ventured around the neighbors house and across the street to the path that leads to a pond.

My sister is on the mend and I am home. I have a three day sew in this weekend and hope to get some work done on my Dancing Stars and other UFO in my room. I was in a panic because I have a Bernina that needed a new hook due to a crack in mine and my Juki that needs a new tension assembly. I bought the hook for the Bernina so I am set to sew this weekend.

Until next time...quilt happy.
